The Minnesota Vikings had a welcome sight on Wednesday as running back Adrian Peterson was back on the practice field. Peterson has been dealing with a high ankle sprain, but he is appearing just about set to return this weekend against the New Orleans Saints. Peterson was able to practice today, which follows a pair of limited practices last week.
Toby Gerhart has been filling in for Peterson in recent weeks, but he would likely return to his backup role with the return of Peterson. It is still possible the team would go with a bit of a timeshare this first week, but if Peterson is able to get in a full week of practice, they might be content to simply roll him out there with his normal workload.
The Vikings face a Saints defense that is questionable at times, but benefits from an explosive offense. The Vikings fell behind big to the Lions last week, but they did not abandon their run game and it helped get them back into the game. They will be heavily reliant on that run game this week.
