Matthew Stafford was unable to lead the Detroit Lions to victory on Sunday Night Football over the New Orleans Saints, but the quarterback likely helped his fantasy football owners to a win this week with impressive numbers. That likely isn't much solace for the signal caller, but it is what it is.
Stafford completed 31 of his 44 passing attempts for an astonishing 404 yards and a touchdown. The quarterback was unable to match those statistics down the stretch, however, as he threw what ended up as a game-clinching interception to the Saints late in the fourth quarter. His biggest problems came when his wide receivers would pick up offensive pass interference penalties, however, as they drew flags on three would-be receptions.
Stafford wasn't even ranked in the top 25 quarterbacks of the week by ESPN, even after removing Thursday night's participants, meaning he likely outperformed any expectations this week. If fantasy owners elected to play him, however, is another story.
