Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson sat out Thursday's practice as he continues to recover from a left hamstring strain suffered this past weekend against the Atlanta Falcons. Johnson had recently recovered from a right hamstring strain before suffering this current ailment.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak addressed the injury during his Wednesday press conference and did not sound optimistic that Johnson would be able to play on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals:
"Is there a chance this weekend?" Kubiak said after practice. "I probably can answer that better in a couple days. There's always a chance. I feel very fortunate. I know we're going to get Andre back. The key here right now is that when we get him back, we need to make sure we get him back for the long haul.
"Hopefully, we can get him back here real quick. He's upbeat. He felt good today, but like I said, until he gets back out here, we'll have to wait and see."
These comments come a couple days after Texans owner Bob McNair stated that he hoped Johnson could be back in a couple weeks. McNair was speaking right after the game, so it remains to be seen how much new information there was at that point.
For now, this is a situation to monitor as injury reports are released Thursday and Friday. If Johnson is unable to go, Jacoby Jones would move back into the starting lineup opposite Kevin Walter. It remains to be seen how much action any of the receivers will see given the QB situation in Houston.
