Following the New York Giants Sunday loss to the Washington Redskins, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks had x-rays on his knee after getting banged up at some point during the game. The x-rays came back negative and a further evaluation indicates the injury is likely no worse than a bone bruise.
Nicks put together a huge game with seven receptions for 122 yards so it remains to be seen how bad the injury is. However, the Giants are proceeding with caution when it comes to their number one receiver. His knee is showing some signs of swelling and Tom Coughlin seems a bit unsure of the extent of the injury at this point. The Giants have an extra day before their Monday Night Football game with the St. Louis Rams, which might prove key for the receiver.
For now, NIcks' status for Monday is uncertain. He'll appear in practice reports as missing time, but hold off on benching him for Monday. Ideally we'll hear word before Sunday about his status for Monday so you're not stuck benching him and then seeing him blow up, or worse starting him and then seeing him sit out.
