Miami Dolphins rookie running back Daniel Thomas was inactive Monday Night against the Patriots and according to coach Tony Sparano, Thomas was not particularly close to being able to go for the game. Thomas was inactive due to a hamstring injury suffered last Wednesday during practice. Thomas was able to practice over the weekend but was listed as questionable on the final injury report before being shut down for the game.
The Miami Dolphins likely stood little chance of beating the Patriots given Tom Brady's record-setting evening. The game did provide a glimpse into a Dolphins rushing attack led by Reggie Bush and it is not pretty. Bush will put together solid games over the course of a season, but he has proven time and again that he is not an every down back. He has one career 100+ yard rushing game in his career and is much better when playing alongside a more traditional every down running back.
Thus far today they have worked out Brian Westbrook, Julius Jones and at least two other backs. This could be due to questions about Thomas' health or just an overall displeasure with their rushing attack. It's a messy situation right now in Miami. Thomas could earn the starting job once healthy, but until he is 100% it is tough to tell what their plan is going to be.
