The Kansas City Chiefs early season struggles took a turn for the worse Sunday afternoon as running back Jamaal Charles suffered a knee injury early in their game with the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs struggled last week and were already struggling this week when Charles suffered his knee injury on their first offensive drive of the game.
Thomas Jones has taken over for the Chiefs and depending on the severity of the injury, Jones would be the starting running back moving forward. Rumors are flying about an extremely severe knee injury, but until we hear it from respected sources, we'll hold off on speculating as to the specific injury to Charles' knee.
If Jones were to take over the starting role, Dexter McCluster would assume greater value. To put that better, he would assume value as with a healthy Charles and Jones he is a fairly speculative play. Since Charles' injury, McCluster has shown some excellent burst with 39 yards on only six carries.
If Charles is going to miss significant time and you're looking for a guy at the bottom of your roster, McCluster might be worth a look. Of course, the Chiefs could be looking at season-long struggles, which would devalue much of the Chiefs offense at this point.
