Ryan Mathews' limited role during Sunday's game between the San Diego Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs was due to his Week 3 fumble, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Mathews started the game on the bench behind Jackie Battle, and had just four carries until the fourth quarter when carried the ball 10 times for 60 yards.
Fantasy Impact: Head coach Norv Turner apparently takes fumbling pretty seriously. Granted, the Chiefs may have been worn out late in the game, but Mathews looked like the more effective runner on the day. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry compared to 2.6 for Battle. Expect Mathews to eventually take over the role of feature back, though Battle should continue to see touches.
