Jahvid Best not cleared to play - are fantasy days over?

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Detroit Lions will not let Jahvid Best play this season, and his career is up in the air. We break down the fantasy implications.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussions) has "not been permitted to return to football", according to an official statement from the Lions. Best hasn't played a snap since last November after suffering his latest brutal concussion. It is unclear if Best's career will continue, but he will definitely not play for the 2012 season.

You can read the team's entire statement on their official website here.

Fantasy Impact: Not much of a surprise here - if Best wasn't going to be cleared nearly a full year after the concussion, he may never be cleared again - but it's a big disappointment for the talented back, who has struggled with concussions since college.

Fantasy owners can go ahead and drop him. The best we can do at this point is hope for his good health, even if that means never stepping on a football field again.
