Terrell Suggs returned to practice Wednesday and Ray Lewis was placed on injured reserve but designated for return, in what was a good day for a beleaguered Baltimore Ravens defense Wednesday. Suggs tore his Achilles' tendon in April and hopes to play sometime in November.
Lewis was thought to be finished for the season after suffering a triceps injury. Wednesday's news leaves the door open for a comeback, though Ravens head coach John Harbaugh acknowledged that Lewis' return this season is unlikely.
Fantasy Impact: The Ravens will take any bit of good news they can get, after losing Lewis (most likely) and cornerback Lardarius Webb to season-ending injuries in the same game. Suggs was the 2011 NFL Defense Player of the Year after recording 14 sacks and seven forced fumbles among his 70 tackles last season.
The Ravens' defense has not lived up to its reputation this season. They rank 28th in the league in total defense after finishing third last year. So far, the Ravens should be considered a starting Team D/ST option on a matchup basis only.
