Kevin Kolb is officially out for the Arizona Cardinals Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings and John Skelton will start in his place. We discuss the fantasy implications.
Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb is officially out for the Cardinals Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Kolb injured his ribs in the Cardinals 19-16 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills and was replaced by Skelton. Kolb did not practice all week and is expected to miss significant time, giving the starting gig back to Skelton.
Skelton began the season as the Cardinals starter, but injured his ankle in Week 1 and Kolb took over. Kolb won the job, but now it once again belongs to Skelton.
Fantasy Impact: Skelton has struggled when he has been on the field this year. He is just 16-for-38 for 194 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. In relief last week he went 2-for-10 for 45 yards with an INT. Skelton won the job during the preseason, so he has some ability, but he has yet to show it during the games that matter this season.
Given that Kolb was a low-end QB2 to begin with, Skelton should only serve as a last-minute bye week replacement. In addition, the status of all Cardinals receivers should take a hit with Skelton replacing Kolb. There is little reason to hold onto Kolb if he is on your roster as there is currently no timetable for his return.
