Cedric Benson is taking on an even bigger role for the Green Bay Packers, offensive coordinator Tony Clements said Monday. Benson saw exclusive carries over fellow running backs Alex Green and James Starks during last week's win over the New Orleans Saints.
"He's a workhorse and when he touches the ball, the more he touches it, the better he gets," Clements said. "We'd like to work those other guys in there if the opportunity presents itself but you try to get (Benson) the ball to get him going."
Fantasy Impact: Benson is averaging just 3.6 yards per carry this season, but had a strong day Sunday rushing for 84 yards on on 18 carries. He went over 100 total yards on the days with four receptions for 22 yards. The Packers have made their intentions clear that Benson will be the team's workhorse going forward despite a healthy Starks. Though he isn't particularly dynamic, the fact that Benson will touch the ball a lot makes him a viable RB2 in standard fantasy leagues.
