The Washington Redskins released running back Ryan Grant on Tuesday, and signed Keiland Williams to take his spot on the roster according to reports. Grant signed with the Redskins in September, but recorded just one carry--a five-yard rumble in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Williams was released by the Detroit Lions last week after recording just two carries for three yards and two receptions for nine yards through five games this season. He played on the Redskins in 2010 and was productive, averaging 4.0 yards per carry on his way to 261 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Fantasy Impact: The move may ultimately amount to rearranging deck chairs with head coach Mike Shanahan seemingly (finally!) committed to letting Alfred Morris handle the rushing load. While Williams has been effective before, and should be familiar with the offensive system, don't expect him to make much of fantasy impact in Washington.
As for Grant, he may still catch on somewhere else as a decent all-around back good for depth. It would take a lot of chips falling his way for him to become fantasy relevant this season, however.
