Vernon Davis had just two receptions for 34 yards as the San Francisco 49ers dominated the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football in Week 8. Davis was targeted just twice on the night, behind Michael Crabtree (5), Mario Manningham (4) and Delanie Walker (3).
Davis has yet to catch a touchdown since Week 3 after catching four over his first three games of the season. He has just five receptions for 71 yards over his last three games after catching five passes for 106 yards in Week 5.
Fantasy Impact: Davis' recent string of sub-par fantasy outings hasn't bothered the Niners any. The team has won four of its last five games, and the offense (specifically Alex Smith) looked terrific against what was thought to be a very good Cardinals defense.
Unfortunately, owners now have to question whether Davis is really a viable starting option in standard fantasy leagues. A clear decline in targets from the beginning of the season outlines a troublesome trend. Hopefully the 49ers will figure out a way to get the uber-talented tight end more involved over their upcoming bye week.
