Ryan Mathews is good fantasy bounce-back bet against Saints

Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Ryan Mathews has a good chance of bouncing back against the Saints' poor defense. We break down the fantasy implications.

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews has had a disappointing start to the season, but things are looking up for him. After missing the first two games with a broken collarbone, Mathews returned in Week 3 and promptly found himself in the team's doghouse after fumbling. He lost snaps to Jackie Battle in Week 4, but the team suggests that he will see more playing time in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Impact: Norv Turner insists that he wasn't trying to send a message by benching Mathews, but we all know he was. The Chargers face the league's worst run defense on Sunday, and Mathews is just too talented for them to keep trotting out the uninspiring Battle. He's a top fantasy player when he hangs on to the ball, and is a good "buy low" candidate going forward.
