Ron Rivera believes Cam Newton is looking downfield too often. We break down the fantasy implications.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera thinks Cam Newton is pressing, attempting to do too much on his own sometimes. Newton has been looking downfield far too often, missing wide open receivers underneath at times.
Fantasy Impact: We're not seeing the same big numbers from Newton on a regular basis like we did last year. He couldn't really get anything going against the Seahawks, completing just 12 of 29 passes for 141 yards. His inaccurate passing might be attributed to him ignoring his other targets underneath. Newton keeps taking deep shots, and while they can pay off at times, it doesn't help keep drives going when he's not connecting. You shouldn't panic if you're a Newton owner, but your expectations have to be tempered at this point.
