Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Cedric Benson will miss eight weeks with a Lisfranc injury, according to reports. James Starks is expected to start at running back for the Packers coming off a turf toe injury. We break down the fantasy implications.
Cedric Benson will miss eight weeks with a Lisfranc injury, according to reports, and could be out for the season if surgery is deemed necessary. James Starks, not Alex Green, is expected to start for the Green Bay Packers, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. Starks was the Packers' starting running back when training camp opened, but his various ailments prompted the team to sign Benson to a minimum contract. Starks has yet to play this season.
Fantasy Impact: Starks appears ready to contribute, and is more seasoned and likely a better pass blocker than the younger Green. Both backs should see touches, though exactly how the carries are divvied remains to be seen. The Packers' running game has been surprisingly effective as a whole this season, and there could be some fantasy value here if one back does take over the lion's share. Wait to see how the situation shakes out before hitting up the waiver wire, however.
