Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman have both admitted that Rashard Mendenhall should start at running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers once he is fully healthy, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Mendenhall is currently on the mend from an Achilles injury, and is questionable at best for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
"I mean, Rac is the guy," said Dwyer, referring to Mendenhall by his nickname. "Rac has been here for years, and they drafted him in the first round to be a starter. That's his room and we complement him."
Fantasy Impact: The quote is very interesting from a fantasy standpoint. It suggests that the coaching staff has emphasized Mendenhall's importance to Dwyer and Redman in private, and certainly bodes well for Mendenhall's fantasy prospects once he is able to rejoin the Steelers on the field.
With that said, don't count on him just yet for this week. Mendenhall was limited in practice Wednesday, while Redman was a full participant. Dwyer was held out with a tight thigh, but is expected to return Thursday and is coming off of two straight 100-plus yards rushing performances.
