Michael Turner, Falcons running game near end zone remain frustrating for fantasy owners

Wesley Hitt

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner continues to have trouble scoring close to the end zone. We break down the fantasy implications.

The Atlanta Falcons have a powerful running back in Michael Turner but haven't figured a consistent way to get him into the end zone in goal-to-go situations. Coach Mike Smith on Monday refused to assign blame to any specific position when it came to the team's running game but said the problems in short yardage would continue to be addressed.

In 13 goal-to-goal chances on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, the Falcons passed nine times, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Turner on the season has only three touchdowns on 17 goal-to-goal carries. The Falcons face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11.

Fantasy Impact: Smith is right not to blame any one player for the struggles in the running game but Turner's numbers don't make a case for him being called a consistent back. He had 15 yards on 13 carries on Sunday, while Jacquizz Rodgers made several explosive plays for the Falcons.

Turner remains a No. 2 fantasy option at running back but fantasy owners who start him just have to hope Atlanta figures things out close to the end zone.
