Jay Cutler injury update: Concussion is likely to keep Bears quarterback from helping fantasy owners

Jonathan Daniel

It doesn't seem hopeful for Chicago to have their quarterback against the 49ers. We break down the fantasy implications.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is recovering from his fourth known concussion this week and Adam Schefter says that the team is "not overly optimistic" about his availability on Monday night against the 49ers. Cutler's history with head injuries would seem to suggest that the Bears want to be careful going forward with this injury.

Last season, Chicago's playoff hopes were dashed after losing Cutler in Week 11 and so they signed Jason Campbell to give them a much more experienced backup. Campbell seems likely to start this week.

Fantasy Take: Cutler isn't a great play in fantasy football and Campbell isn't going to be any better. Who this really hurts is Brandon Marshall. He's been having a career-year, and we will find out how much of that had to do with the chemistry he has with Cutler.

Or, Cutler's brain will heal quicker than expected.
