Michael Turner active, fantasy value could be limited

Stephen Brashear

Could there be more snaps for the Falcons' backup running backs on Sunday? We break down the fantasy implications.

Does Michael Turner have much left in the tank, or has the curse of 30 struck again?

ESPN's Chris Mortenson has indicated that the Falcons could give more snaps to Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling on Sunday, with Turner being largely ineffective this season. Atlanta hired Dirk Koetter as their offensive coordinator this year, and that likely meant there would be fewer running plays. It could signal a beginning of the end for Turner's value in the offense. That has held true, with Turner gaining just 3.8 yards per carry and 58.8 yards per game.

Last season, Turner ran for 1,340 yards and 4.5 yards per carry. It also doesn't help that Turner turned 30 this year, a common age to see backs begin to wear down after years of physical abuse on the football field.

Fantasy Take: Turner was a risky play to start the year, and he's even riskier now. The Falcons need a back that can carry the ball but also play a part in the passing game, and that's not Turner's style. This news likely won't do much for the value of Rodgers or Snelling, limited in their own ways, but it gives owners even more of a reason to turn away from Michael Turner.
