Colin Kaepernick had an impressive game against the Bears on Monday night, and the Niners suddenly have a QB controversy. We break down the fantasy implications.
The San Francisco 49ers didn't really have a QB controversy this season, but QB Colin Kaerpenick may have forced the issue on Monday night. Starting in place of Alex Smith against the Chicago Bears, Kaep put on a clinic, completing 16 of 23 passes for 243 yards and two TDs as the Niners throttled the Bears 32-7.
After the game, coach Jim Harbaugh was noncommittal about his starting QB next week, saying only that he will "go with the hot hand".
Fantasy Impact: Kaep has deserved more reps after clowning the Bears' vaunted D. I wouldn't be surprised if the Niners use Smith's ongoing concussion issue as a convenient excuse to give Kaep another look next week.
This situation is still new and fluid, so fantasy owners shouldn't make any rash decisions yet. Just know that Kaep is a big name to monitor on the waiver wires.
