Ben Roethlisberger ruled out for Week 12: Fantasy implications

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Ben Roethlisberger has been ruled out for the Steelers' Week 12 matchup against the Browns. We break down the fantasy implications.

Ben Roethlisberger has officially been ruled out for the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 12 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, according to the Steelers' official site. Roethlisberger had already been ruled out as the team's starter, but the possibility was left open that he could be activated as the team's emergency quarterback.

With Byron Leftwich already ruled out with a ribs injury, Charlie Batch will start at quarterback for the Steelers. The newly-acquire Brian Hoyer will be the team's backup quarterback.

Fantasy Impact: Roethlisberger is expected to return in Week 13 from a serious ribs injury suffered in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs. That's good news for the Steelers, who will be playing a pivotal game against Baltimore Ravens. Unfortunately, it leaves Roethlisberger owners in the lurch this week.

Batch isn't worth targeting if you're looking for a stop-gap replacement for Big Ben. He has proven himself a capable backup in the past, but that's different from being a fantasy relevant option. Expect the Steelers to rely heavily on a three-headed rushing attack.
