Fantasy Football 2012, Week 16: Running back rankings for PPR and standard leagues

Joe Robbins

Adrian Peterson is the top running back in standard and PPR fantasy leagues for Week 16. We break down the best of the rest in this week's running back rankings.

Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to return this week, which should serve as a death blow to David Wilson as an RB2. Wilson owners shouldn't cut him, however, in case Bradshaw's health status changes before kickoff. Knee injuries usually need a lot of rest.

LeSean McCoy has a chance to play against the Washington Redskins this week. The Philadelphia Eagles don't have much to play for, however, so McCoy could still ride out the season on the bench. Bryce Brown owners should be ready to start him again, though he too may have limited fantasy value. Brown has put the ball on the turf multiple times as a starter. His outlook looks worse after two poor outings, though he reportedly won't be benched for his slippery fingers.

Rashard Mendenhall returns to the Pittsburgh Steelers this week following a one-game suspension. He is still a risky play in fantasy leagues, however. Jonathan Dwyer is a nice flex option this week.

Maurice Jones-Drew hasn't been ruled out yet against the New England Patriots, and Rashad Jennings will undergo concussion tests this week. This is shaping up to be a pretty messy situation for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Daniel Thomas suffered a knee injury last week, and could miss Week 16. As a result, it should be the Reggie Bush show in a great matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Lamar Miller may also see some touches, but Bush should be considered a potential RB1 this week, especially in PPR leagues.

I'm not touching the San Diego running back situation at this point.
