Joe Flacco takes responsibility for Ravens' struggles: Fantasy implications

USA TODAY Sports

Joe Flacco is shouldering the blame for the Ravens' recent struggles as he plays out the final year of his contract in hopes of an extension. We break down the fantasy implications.

Joe Flacco is angling for a contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, but his play in recent weeks hasn't helped his side of the negotiations. The Ravens have lost their last three straight games. Over that stretch, Flacco accounted for six turnovers, three of which came on fumbles. To his credit, the quarterback shouldered the blame for the team's recent slide.

"It starts with the quarterback, and that's the position that's looked at," Flacco said. "You have to go look at yourself and see what you can do better in order to make everybody else around you a little bit better and in order to get our team to win."

Fantasy Impact: Flacco is a hard quarterback to pin down. He isn't an elite signal caller nor is he among the the large pool of mediocre QBs in the league, though he has played like both at times. In general, Ravens fans and fantasy owners like having Flacco around, but his inconsistency makes him difficult to fully support.

His future with the organization shouldn't be in doubt, however. If a new deal isn't worked out in the offseason, the Ravens may simply give him the franchise tag and spend another year in negotiations. Fantasy owners should still consider him a decent backup option in standard leagues, though he shouldn't be considered a starter most weeks. He has a good matchup against the New York Giants this week, though if you're still playing in Week 16 then odds are you already have a more reliable fantasy quarterback.
