US PRESSWIRE

Rice is a late active for Week 17, but isn't expected to play much. We break down the fantasy implications.

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is active on Sunday, a surprise move after it was reported that he would sit and rest for the playoffs. ESPN's Adam Schefter later updated that story with news that Rice would play a series or two.

Rice has not missed a game this season, rushing for 1,138 yards with nine touchdowns, and catching 61 passes for 478 yards. It could be the first time Rice fails to rush for 1,200 yards since his rookie season in 2008. Bernard Pierce could pick up the majority of carries for the Ravens today. Baltimore has won the AFC North but could still move up in the playoff standings and switch spots with the New England Patriots for the No. 3 seed.

Fantasy Take: Why don't you typically play fantasy football in Week 17? Reasons like this one. Rice will probably not have more than 10 touches.
