Ben Roethlisberger reportedly has diminished soreness in his ribs and shoulder, and is hopeful he can play Week 14 when the Steelers take on the Chargers. We break down the fantasy implications.

Update 2: Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin would not commit to Roethlisberger as the team's starting quarterback speaking at Tuesday's press conference, saying that the quarterback "will be given an opportunity to prove whether or not he is healthy." Tomlin said that Batch is currently game planning for the Chargers.

Update: Roethlisberger is expected play and start Week 14 for the Steelers against the Chargers, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Be sure to monitor his progress in practice closely, as similar reports have surfaced in previous weeks.

Ben Roethlisberger is feeling less sore in his chest and his shoulder, and is hopeful that he can play Week 14 when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the San Diego Chargers, according to ESPN.com. Roethlisberger has missed his last three starts after suffering an almost life-threatening ribs injury in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Steelers are looking to Wednesday and Thursday practice to determine whether Roethlisberger will be available on Sunday. Charlie Batch has struggled under center with Roethlisberger out, though he did just enough to lead the Steelers to a win over the Baltimore Ravens this past weekend.

Fantasy Impact: Roethlisberger owners should be somewhat encouraged by the news. Then again, early last week there were reports that the quarterback was expected to play in Week 13 that ultimately proved false. We will have a much more accurate sense of his status in a couple days.

If Roethlisberger does play, he has a nice matchup against a defense that has given up 21 passing touchdowns with just 11 interceptions on the season.
