Aldon Smith left Friday's game with a hip injury. We break down the fantasy implications.
San Francisco OLB Aldon Smith left Friday's game against the Vikings with a bruised hip after falling hard on his leg. According to CSN Bay Area, Smith was examined on the bench for several minutes before being carted into the locker room. The 49ers went on to win 17-6.
Analysis: Fortunately, the injury doesn't seem too severe - at worst, he could miss the next preseason game - otherwise it would've been a major blow to one of the league's best defenses. Smith had a gangbusters rookie season, finishing with 14 sacks as a pass-rush specialist and is expected to play a bigger role this season. As a man alone, he's an elite fantasy IDP option; as a teammate alongside Patrick Willis, Justin Smith, Ray McDonald and Carlos Rogers, he makes up an elite fantasy defense that won't be on the draft board very long.
