The Miami Dolphins have confirmed on 790 The Ticket that rookie QB Ryan Tannehill will be getting the start Friday night against the Panthers. Originally listed at 3rd on the depth chart, Tannehill put himself in the conversation for starter after an impressive preseason debut, going 14 for 21 with 167 yards and a TD while playing with the second-team.
Analysis: It's unknown how much playing time Tannehill will get, but his performance with the first-stringers will be an important barometer for his progress in training camp. With David Garrard out for the remainder of the preseason with knee surgery, it's become a two-QB race in Miami for the starting job. If Tannehill continues to play well, Garrard's roster security is on the ropes - as the Palm Beach Post notes, he's guaranteed $2.25 million if he makes the Week 1 roster and hasn't taken a snap since 2010. His release seems almost inevitable now.
