Victory Cruz led the Giants receiving corps with five receptions for 51 yards against the Jets on Saturday night. We break down the fantasy implications.
Victor Cruz caught five passes for 51 yards to lead the New York Giants receiving corps in their preseason win over the New York Jets on Saturday night. Rueben Randle also had a big night, hauling in a 49-yard pass.
Analysis: Cruz was targeted eight times on the night, a full five times more than his next closest teammate. That has to excite fantasy owners, especially in point per reception leagues. Cruz has established himself as an early-round target in fantasy drafts thanks to his heavy involvment in the Giants' offense. Some may worry that Hakeem Nicks will cut into Cruz's targets once he returns to the field, but the two occupy very different roles in the offense. Cruz will happily suck up receptions underneath while Nicks makes his paycheck downfield. As for Randle, the rookie made strong case to take over as the team's No. 3 receiver. Whether that will be a significant tole remains to be seen, but at the very least Randle proved he is worth keeping tabs on.
