The Chiefs will be without their leading pass rusher Tamba Hali for the season opener. We break down the fantasy implications.
Tamba Hali will not play in the Chiefs Week 1 matchup against the Falcons after being suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He will be eligible to return to the active roster on Sept. 10.
Analysis: Kansas City finished tied for 27th in the league in sacks last season with 29 total. Hali accounted for 12 of those. With Hali out, the Chiefs pass rush will take a huge hit, as he has been their leader in sacks for the past four seasons straight. Fortunately he won't be gone for long, assuming more of these incidents don't occur in the future. The Chiefs defense ranks right around the middle of the league for preseason fantasy projections, but without Hali you might want to look elsewhere for your first matchup of the season. Matt Ryan will surely be pleased to hear this news.
