New York Giants defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul will be held out of Friday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Pierre-Paul didn't practice Wednesday because of back spasms. Head coach Tom Coughlin described the decision as precautionary.
Analysis: Pierre-Paul was one of the most explosive defensive players in the NFL last season and is a consensus elite fantasy DE in IDP leagues. Among those likely most pleased by the decision not to play Pierre-Paul on Friday are the Chicago Bears offensive linemen, who have struggled to protect the quarterback in the preseason. Pierre-Paul finished last season with 16.5 sacks. As long a this is precautionary, owners in IDP leagues should expect Pierre-Paul to be the first defensive lineman selected. As a team defense, the Giants are a good start most weeks because of the pressure they put on the quarterback. There is no reason to adjust their ranking at this time.
