Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith's status for Sunday's preseason game is still uncertain because of a foot infection, Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer reports. Smith missed practice again Thursday, a day after he was seen on crutches returning to Bank of America Stadium with the team's trainer. Coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday that the team is waiting for swelling to go down before determining if the veteran will play against the New York Jets.
Analysis: This has to be annoying for Smith, who is Carolina's top receiver and a solid No. 2 fantasy receiver in most leagues. The infection developed after last week's preseason game against Miami, but it still doesn't sound like anyone thinks he's going to miss any regular season games. As long as that is the case, fantasy owners should continue to draft Smith as they see fit.
