The New York Jets are finalizing a trade with the St. Louis Rams for right tackle Jason Smith, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. St. Louis will reportedly receive the much-maligned Wayne Hunter. The Jets' right tackle spot has been a mess this offseason. Hunter was benched during preseason in favor of undrafted third-year lineman Austin Howard.
Analysis: Jason Smith has failed to live up to hype of being selected No. 2 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft, losing his starting job in St. Louis to Barry Richardson this offseason. He is still better than what the Jets were working with, which looked a little something like this. Yeah, not good. If Smith is simply serviceable, it will help the Jets offense tremendously. The move should make you feel a little better if you do wind up with Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow or Shonn Greene.
