Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is entering his contract year, but the team is not likely to re-sign him before the offseason. We break down the fantasy implications.
Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is entering his contract year, but the team is not likely to re-sign him before the offseason, according to Jason LaCanfora. Schaub has strung together another strong preseason, but injuries have been an issue for him throughout his career. The Texans are probably playing it safe by making Schaub prove he can stay healthy for a full season before handing him a new contract.
Analysis: The Texans have shifted their focus on offense in recent years. While Houston was once known for airing out the football with Schaub, they have become a more run-oriented attack. Thus, Schaub's value to the team isn't exactly what it once was. Still, we saw what happened to the Texans when Schaub went down last season, so they know what he's worth. Until he can prove his durability, though, he isn't worthy of starting for your fantasy team or receiving a long-term contract.
