The Rams gave their second-string running backs extra playing time in the fourth game of the preseason, but no one has emerged as a true handcuff for Steven Jackson. Isaiah Pead rush for 58 yards on 10 carries, while Daryl Richardson carried the ball nine times for 36 yards.
Analysis: St. Louis drafted Pead in the second round of the NFL Draft this offseason in the hope that he would adequately fill the No. 2 running back role in 2012. Unfortunately for Pead, Richardson has made the most of his time in preseason, making the competition between the two far too difficult to call at this point. Both rookies will likely see limited action in the regular season, as Jackson remains the workhorse for the Rams. Pead looked better in his fourth game, but he didn't do enough to separate himself from Richardson.
