Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera says middle linebacker Jon Beason is likely out for Saturday's preseason game with the Houston Texans. We break down the fantasy implications:
Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera says middle linebacker Jon Beason is likely out for Saturday's preseason game with the Houston Texans because of a sore hamstring. Rivera, however, says he expects Beason to be able to practice next week. Beason hurt the hamstring during practice on Wednesday and didn't participate in a walkthrough that night. Beason missed all of last season because of a torn left Achilles.
Analysis: Beason is perhaps the most important player on Carolina's defense and, if healthy, makes the Panthers a much more viable fantasy option. Beason didn't play last sesaon, and is being counted on to lead a unit that failed to get stops at key times last season. In IDP leagues, Beason could be a strong late-round pick and a good start provided he's healthy. There is some injury risk here, so keep an eye on his playing time as we get closer to the regular season.
