Detroit Lions DE Cliff Avril says he doesn't expect to play on Friday against the Cleveland Browns. We break down the fantasy implications.
Detroit Lions DE Cliff Avril tells The Detroit Free Press he doesn't expect to play on Friday against the Cleveland Browns. Avril has only practiced for three days since signing his franchise tender. He will make $10.6 million this season as a franchise-tagged player. Lions coach Jim Schwartz says that Avril is in good shape and had a good practice on Thursday. Schwartz says Avril has been going out and getting his body ready.
Analysis: Detroit's defense is already without other key players and is hoping to get that unit healthier by the regular season. It sounds like Avril will be ready to go after a few more practices and that could help the Lions, who are playing without defensive back Louis Delmas (knee). As a defensive unit, the Lions are a solid fantasy play in most weeks, but getting these players up-to-speed and healthy will only help.
