Are you stacked at tight end and have to decide between starting Antonio Gates or Vernon Davis? Are you looking for a lower end guy who is going to sneak into the top 10? Take a look at my weekly Tight End rankings and enjoy fantasy domination over your league.
We're back with Week 2 tight end rankings. It should be no surprise that the top of the rankings remain fairly similar. As you get ready for Thursday Night Football, featuring the Bears and Packers, the time has come to figure out your sit/start options for Week 2. As you figure out your tight ends, here are some notes related to SB Nation Fantasy's Week 2 tight end rankings.
- Jermichael Finley really impressed me in Week 1 and looks primed for a huge year. It isn't just about his talent (although that is unquestioned). Aaron Rodgers was looking in his direction the entire day and he was a prime target when GB was down in the end zone. They even split Finley out wide on a number of occasions. I think Finley is approaching top five status regardless of matchup, even against a tough matchup like Chicago.
- I admit my pre-season valuation of Davis may have been off. Even though he had a relatively quiet Week 1, things are looking up. Alex Smith looked really sharp, and it appears as if San Francisco wants to open up their offense a bit. This will only benefit the most talented pass catcher on the team. I expect a big week against Detroit. Consider this one of your last opportunities to buy low.
- By all accounts Jason Witten is starting to get healthy again. In the Cowboys' offense, Witten cannot in good conscience be rank him outside the top 10. I know he was uber-quiet in Week 1. But with his track record I would roll the dice with him any day.
- I said last week that Denver's Jacob Tamme would have a quiet week. I expect that this week will be his rebound. Peyton Manning looked like, well, Peyton Manning and that instantly gives extra value to every pass catcher on that team. This will be a high scoring affair against Atlanta and I expect Tamme to catch five balls for 80 yards and a touchdown.
- I am not buying Baltimore's Dennis Pitta. I understand he looked very impressive in Week 1, but this feels to me like a one-week wonder. Baltimore is opening up its passing game, but Pitta isn't even the best tight end on the team (Ed Dickson). With that in mind I would definitely not sleep on Dickson.
- The Giants' Martellus Bennett isn't particularly talented. He isn't that fast, he doesn't run great routes, and he doesn't have amazing hands. But I just can't help but have him on my fantasy radar. He plays in a great offense that can't run the ball. There are two great wide receivers to take pressure off of him. I just think he will become a borderline start-able TE in 12-team leagues very soon.
