The Patriots could be preparing to trade Wes Welker by giving Julian Edelman extra snaps, according to reports. We break down the fantasy implications.
Wes Welker's recent decreased role within the New England Patriots offense could be a sign that team is preparing to trade the wide receiver, according to Mike Freeman of CBS Sports. Freeman reports that a trade involving Welker has some creedence according to league sources, and the Patriots may be giving extended snaps to Julian Edelman to see how the younger wideout handles an expanded role.
Fantasy Impact: A Welker trade is entirely in the realm of rumor at this point. In any case, Edelman has hardly proved he is capable of being an every-down target like Welker has been for last five seasons in New England. Still, it's a fascinating story to keep an eye on, though you'll probably be sick of it once national media has rode it into the ground. Edelman is an intriguing speculative waiver pickup if you have the roster space to work with, though you're probably better off leaving him where he is.
