Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Whether you are sitting at 2-0, or 0-2, every single matchup matters. Tight end can be a tough position to evaluate and decide on a weekly starter. Tune in to my weekly tight end rankings to make your job all that much easier!
We're back with Week 2 tight end rankings. While Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski continue to dominate the position, there have been a number of movers and shakers over the first couple weeks of the season. As we are coming up on Thursday night, it is time to consider who to start/sit for this upcoming week's matchup. Here are some general TE related notes followed by rankings for both standard and PPR leagues.
- Brandon Pettigrew is going to have a massive week against the Titans. Any team that gives up three touchdowns to Dante Rosario, is a breeding ground for top tight ends to perform against. In general, Pettigrew is quietly moving into the conversation of the top tier of tight ends. Bottom line: Detroit is build to pass, and Pettigrew remains a top option on a team without a legit No. 2 wide receiver.
- One poor week by Jermichael Finley doesn't have me jumping off his bandwagon. I still view him as a top five tight end for the season (even though I have him just outside my top five this week). The fact remains that he is still a big goal line target, playing in a top offense. If anybody is looking to sell on Finley now would be a great time to buy.
- I keep on writing about Martellus Bennett and nobody seems to be acting accordingly: this guy needs to be starting in ALL 12 team leagues. The Giants are very quickly coming to the realization that they can't run the ball, and while Eli's 500-yard performance isn't the norm, I expect huge passing numbers from this offense. If he is still on your league's waiver wire, you need to act quickly because he won't be for that much longer.
- I am still not sold on Dennis Pitta but it is hard to ignore the number of targets that he has received through two weeks. I am moving him up into my top 15 but am not ready to anoint him as a starter quite yet. If he does this for another week or two, I will have to reconsider but I am just not jumping on the bandwagon quite yet.
- Fred Davis has really fallen off the face of the earth. As a Skins fan, I really expected him to be in the top 10 conversation. But the fact is he hasn't seem to build any kind of chemistry with RGIII, and cannot be trusted as a top 12 starter in standard leagues. With that being said, I don't think Davis is a drop quite yet. As RGIII gets more comfortable, the Skins could open up their offense more and allow for Davis to carve out a bigger role. Hold for now.
