Week 3 IDP Rankings are here. Check them out with some hot names and stories about the world of IDP.
What's up, ID people? Usually we like to start off with some good news, but there's actually an IDP stud that has lost a lot of his luster and there's a cause for some serious concern. For the past few years, George Wilson has probably been ranked as my top DB more than any other player and there's a good chance that might never happen again. Wilson hasn't been getting his full allotment of snaps and has been splitting the load at SS with Da'Norris Searcy. If I owned Wilson, I'd probably see if he can earn his snaps back before making a somewhat hasty cut.
Peyton Manning vs. Matt Ryan was trumped by the incredible play of William Moore. Moore has been a favorite player of mine for a while, but he hasn't really been in a scheme that has suited his skills. Well, he's probably happy about Mike Nolan calling the shots. Moore was used in a Roman Harper-like fashion by coming up in the box and covering slot receivers. His value is legit and I wouldn't hesitate to cut a DB that you're not happy with (assuming you didn't invest an early pick on one).
Brandon Merriweather is out for the next couple weeks and Madieu Williams stepped in nicely. He had seven tackles against the Rams and it looks he should see enought snaps to have some value as a low-end DB2 in some plus matchups. I like him a little this week against Cincy.
Thomas Howard going down really opens things up for Rey Maualuga. He has routinely been one of the worst 4-3 Mikes in IDP, but now he'll have a shot to produce some usefull numbers. He might have a really big week this against the Redskins, but it's not time to go all in on him yet.
Speaking of going all in, that's pretty much where I'm at with rookies Mark Barron and Chandler Jones. I literally have them on all my teams and after Chandler busted out in Week 1, it was Barron's turn in Week 2. The Bama star racked up 10 tackles against the high-flying Giants and it won't be the last time he hits double-digit tackles. Aqib Talib has been a disaster and teams are going to be passing a little more this year. I'd be surprised if Barron doesn't have DB1 value in just a few weeks.
Where's the spoon? AH-ha! AH-ha! Will Witherspoon added himself to the silverware drawer with Sean Weatherspoon as a valuable IDP asset. The loss of Colin McCarthy is a huge loss for Tennessee and Spoon II will be manning the middle on every down. He should be a nice plug-n-play for those waiting on McCarthy to return. By the way, I can never resist a Coming to America quote.
Russell Allen also filled in extremely well for Daryl Smith with his 12 tackles. I wouldn't say it's party time or anything, but Allen should be an OK option in deep IDP leagues while Smith is on the mend.
On a random note, I love watching the Seahawks D. The fly to the ball and they want to lay out every player they can. Pete Carroll really has those guys playing aggressive and their athleticism just jumps off the screen. It's the first game I watch when I watch DirecTV NFL Shortcuts on my DVR. Kam Chancellor is probably my favorite defensive player to watch in the NFL and I'm not a Seahawks fan.
A lot of IDP formats are different, so feel free to shoot me a question on Twitter (@MikeSGallagher). I'm always talking stats and deep-league plays, too.
