Jason Witten Injury Update: Probable In What Could Be A Bad Fantasy Matchup

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - SEPTEMBER 05: Tight end Jason Witten #82 of the Dallas Cowboys looks on prior to playing against the New York Giants during the 2012 NFL season opener at MetLife Stadium on September 5, 2012 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images)

Jason Witten is probable. We break down the fantasy implications.

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten (abdomen) is listed as probable after putting in a whole week of practice this week.

Analysis: The probable tag is really just a formality and Witten is expected to play. The Bucs don't have a strong D, but their linebackers and safeties are certainly better than average when it comes to covering tight ends.

Rookie Lavonte David on the weak side and Mason Foster over the middle should be able to prevent Witten from getting open down the field. Plus they also have Mark Barron at strong safety to also help on the Pro Bowl tight end. It's not really a good idea to carry a second TE unless you need to, so Witten owners should still probably start him.
