Alex Smith and the Niners lose. We break down the fantasy implications.

Alex Smith came back to Earth on Sunday completed 24-of-35 attempts with just 204 yards passing, one TD and a pick in the loss to the Vikings.

Analysis: Smith wasn't terrible or anything, but there was a lot of press in starting Alex Smith over some reliable people. The Niners are going to live and die by their D, so it doesn't make much sense for them to air it out and lengthen the game. Smith does have a lot of weapons in the new offense, but he will come with some inconsistencies. He is more of a bye-week option than a fantasy starter.
