The PPR Target Report highlights some of the top targeted wide receivers in Week 3, including Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe and Colts WR Reggie Wayne.
In Week 3 we saw 22 different wide receivers get 10 or more targets, so the age of airing it out on offense is in full swing. Those of you who were around back in the 80's probably remember the Chargers and their "Air Coryell" offense lead by coach Don Coryell, who loved to throw the ball downfield with quarterback Dan Fouts targeting tight end Kellen Winslow and wide receiver Charley Joiner in the wild AFC West. Coryell would be in heaven coaching offenses in 2012, as teams are "airing" it out more than ever.
Let's take a look at the top targeted wide receivers from Week 3:

Hit the Bullseye
Dwayne Bowe, KC and Reggie Wayne, IND
The top two targeted receivers this week, Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe and Colts WR Reggie Wayne are also the top two targeted receivers in the NFL through Week 3. Both look to be the favorites to get 10+ targets per week going forward, as Bowe really has no other competition for targets amongst the Kansas City wide outs., and the same can be said for Wayne.
Wayne has garnered 40 targets thus far in 2012, good for 23 receptions, 294 yards and one touchdown. Bowe has been targeted 37 times thus far, catching 18 of the balls for 234 yards and two scores.
Santonio Holmes, NYJ
Holmes came out of nowhere in Week 3 to catch 9 balls for 147 yards on 14 targets from quarterback Mark Sanchez. The Jets passing game doesn't scare too many defenses, so I wouldn't expect Holmes to see this many targets going forward.
One to Watch
Kenny Britt, TENN
Britt made his first appearance of the season last week, but was limited to 15-20 snaps. This week, he was a big part of the Tennessee passing game, as he was targeted 11 times, catching 6 balls for 55 yards. He injured his ankle in the game, but should be ready to go in Week 4. Britt looks to become a bigger part of the Titans offense as the season goes along.
Missed the Mark
Vincent Jackson, TB
Jackson was signed this offseason by the Buccaneers to give quarterback Josh Freeman a solid No. 1 wide receiver, but he has managed to catch only 10 of the 27 times he has been targeted by his young quarterback, but he has made them count, as he has 204 yards receiving and one score.
Dez Bryant, DAL
Bryant came into the season full of offseason hype, but has yet to sniff the endzone yet. He was targeted 8 times vs Tampa Bay in Week 3, good for 6 receptions and 62 yards. For the season, he has caught 13 of his 20 targets for 164 yards and no touchdowns. The Dallas offensive line has not given quarterback Tony Romo much time in the pocket, so their play has to improve before we get to see the full potential of Bryant.
