The PPR Target Report for Running Backs highlights a Chiefs running back who bounced back after being benched in Week 2 and a Jets running back who could garner more touches in Week 4.

This week, we saw the return of Chargers running back Ryan Matthews to the San Diego offense, and while he did not put up big numbers, he was targeted eight times, good for 5 receptions and 32 yards. He will become a bigger part of the Chargers offense in the weeks ahead, so don't go trading him, or sitting him over the next few weeks.

There weren't too many huge performances from running backs in the aerial game this week, so let's take a quick look at the top 20 targeted running backs this week.

Hitting the Mark

Jamaal Charles, KC

Last week, many fantasy owners shrugged as Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles only garnered nine touches in a bad loss to the Buffalo Bills. We were told that he was experiencing some knee pain during the Buffalo game, so he was benched to rest his ailing knee. This week, his knee looks like it is 100%, as he thrashed the Saints offense for 288 total yards of offense and a long 91 yard touchdown run. Charles was targeted eight times, catching six of the balls from quarterback Matt Cassel for 55 yards.

Bilal Powell, NYJ

Powell could begin to take more and more playing time away from starter Shonn Greene beginning in Week 4, and fantasy owners should pick him up off the waiver wire, as he can help in the running and passing game. Powell was targeted five times by quarterback Mark Sanchez, catching two of the passes for 24 yards.

Missing the Mark

Darren McFadden, OAK

I watched a lot of the Raiders-Steelers game on Sunday, and McFadden was used more as a decoy and a blocking back in the Raiders offense. He is a heck of a blocker, as I didn't see him miss any assignment, but as a result, he was targeted a season low two times, catching both passes, but for just 2 yards. McFadden will have an easier time vs the Broncos in Week 4.

Darren Sproles, NO

A week after receiving 14 targets, good for 13 receptions and 128 yards receiving, Sproles was not targeted at all in Week 3 against the Kansas City defense. Quite a surprise for a running back who could catch 100 balls this season. I see his role in the Saints passing game increasing in Week 4.
