Joe McKnight will play more cornerback for the New York Jets going forward, according to head coach Rex Ryan. With Darrelle Revis out for the season, the Jets need more bodies at corner and Ryan believes that the 5'11, 205-pound McKnight has the frame and athleticism to be successful at the position.
"He'll have a role on offense, but we're also teaching him how to play corner," Ryan said. "Not quite a full-time capacity, but he's going to be over there a ton in the meetings and everything else."
Fantasy Impact: Don't expect McKnight to make much of an impact at all as an IDP. The move is more a product of depth concerns at corner than any real belief that McKnight will be a game changer at the position. He practiced at corner leading up to the Jets' Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but never saw the field on defense. McKnight's dual role is a good sign that the coaching staff is confident in Bilal Powell as a third-down and backup running back.
