Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Week 4 is here and IDP owners should have an idea on how much help they're getting on the defensive side of the ball. Check out how we rank the linebackers, defensive linemen and defensive backs for Week 4.
There have been some really big injuries on the defensive side of the ball this year, but none bigger than arguably the best defender in the league rupturing his ACL on Sunday. Darrelle Revis will miss the rest of the year and the Jets will have Kyle Wilson, a first-round pick, step in as the starter. The Jets have also taken an all-hands-on-deck approach by moving running back Joe McKnight to corner. It's interesting because McKnight also was recruited out of high school as a corner. He is expected to see plenty of snaps. This isn't really a direct line to IDP value, but it's just an indication that the Jets are going to struggle some on the defensive side of the ball. The more a team struggles, the more they stay on the field, which leads to more stats. As a result, the IDP values of LaRon Landry, Yeremiah Bell and David Harris should see a boost.
There was a lot of talk about the Lions at Titans game and justifiably so. There was another story that was interesting in the world of IDP and it was the exceptional play of WILL Akeem Ayers. While he did line up on the weak side in the base 4-3, Ayers quarterbacked the defense in nickel packages and was always around the ball. The UCLA product exploded for 16 tackles and a sack on Sunday. I'm buying and this might actually hurt Colin McCarthy once he does come back.
Another interesting WILL that made a name for himself was K.J. Wright. Wright lined up over the middle several times while base Mike Bobby Wagner continues to struggle. Wright will likely see even more snaps in the middle and with the way the Seahawks defend the pass, he should be viewed as a nice LB2 right now.
Pat Angerer did some light running and it looks like he has a chance to return after the Week 4 bye. Jerrell Freeman has been a saving grace for almost all of my IDP teams and it looks like his value might be coming to an end. Angerer will likely be eased into his role, but I'd cut Freeman for Angerer in a heartbeat right now.
There are a lot of different formats out there, so feel free to ask me a question on Twitter (@MikeSGallagher) about your lineup decision. I'm also on there constantly updating all sorts of fantasy football news.
