Kellen Winslow requested, and was granted a release from the New England Patriots on Thursday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Kellen Winslow requested, and was granted his release from the New England Patriots on Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Winslow's release may be related to the quick progress of Aaron Hernandez in his recovery from an ankle injury suffered in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Impact: Winslow has also been dealing with knee problems that in part led to his release from the Seattle Seahawks before the start of the regular season. He may catch on somewhere else in the league this season, but don't hold your breath for any meaningful fantasy contribution in any format. As for Hernandez, don't count on a Week 4 return. Beyond that is anyone's guess, at this point.
