Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Joique Bell could be the "game closer" for the Lions. We break down the fantasy implications.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has suggested that backup running back Joique Bell could serve as the team's "closer" during games. This would serve that Mikel Leshoure is the starter, Kevin Smith acts as a change-of-pace back in quarters one through three, while Bell would get the carries in a run-out-the-clock situation. In last week's game against Tennessee, Bell had 23 yards on five fourth quarter carries.

Fantasy Take: This news really doesn't bump up Bell's value at all, but it seriously dampers Leshoure's. A fantasy back will usually rack up that extra three or four points late in the game as a team runs down the clock and gets an extra handful of carries. However, one has to wonder how many games the 1-2 Lions will be running down this year.
