Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 6 TNF: Eli Manning

Nick Laham

The Giants have been terrible, and Eli Manning has been underwhelming. Can he get back to being fantasy-reliable Eli Thursday night? We break down the fantasy implications.

With the New York Giants sitting at 0-5, and quarterback Eli Manning having 12 interceptions to go with only eight touchdowns, it's been an awful season for the two-time Super Bowl winner. Thursday night, he will try to earn the team's first win against the Chicago Bears.

Manning has 1,482 passing yards through five games on the season, good for seventh among quarterbacks. He has thrown at least one interception in every game on the season, and both of his multi-pass touchdown games (Weeks 1 and 5) have been accompanied by three interceptions.

Fantasy impact: It's been a miserable season for Manning and all the Giants. Injuries have ravaged the team, including across the offensive line, leading to less time for Manning to get the ball out.

That said, the Giants are also going to be without starting running back David Wilson Thursday night. They aren't going to want to lean on backups Brandon Jacobs or Da'Rel Scott to carry the ball, so like it or not, Manning is going to be throwing the ball. Also, with all the injuries the Giants have, wide receivers Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle are healthy.

Odds are he gets a fair number of passing yards, and a touchdown or two wouldn't be at all surprising. Neither, of course, would interceptions, so it's a mixed bag. Fantasy owners who are without Matt Ryan this week (or Ryan Tannehill, in deeper leagues), or are now without a Michael Vick-type, might look at Manning as an option. There are definitely worse choices out there.
